PRESTONSBURG – Tickets for the Big Sandy Idol Regional Competition went on sale Tuesday at the Mountain Arts Center (MAC). Big Sandy Idol is scheduled for March 11-12 at the MAC and is presented by Gearheart Communications and Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC).
In its 10th year, Big Sandy Idol brings together talented vocalists from all high schools in Floyd, Johnson, Magoffin, Martin and Pike counties as well as participants from home and private schools to crown an overall winner. The winner will receive a full-paid scholarship to BSCTC, a spot on the Big Sandy Singers and Band, a full album recording and other prizes.
“The talent at our school auditions have been absolutely amazing,” said Clayton Case, director of fine arts at BSCTC. A winner and runner-up from each school was selected to advance to the regional competition.
Maranda Finney, of Wesley Christian High School, won last year’s competition. Case said that this year’s show is sure to be another display of remarkable talent across the region.
“Each year, the talent grows, and every single performance has you at the edge of your seats,” said Case. “It’s truly a showcase of the tremendous talent we have walking the halls of our local schools.”
Tickets are $12 or $8 for groups of 10 or more. They can be purchased at the MAC ticket office, online at www.macarts.com or by calling 1-888-MAC-ARTS. All proceeds from the show benefit the college’s fine arts department and music outreach programs throughout the region.
