A pair of true stories represented the best and worst sides of human nature with tales of shame and heroism.
MY ALL AMERICAN – The true story of Freddie Steinmark makes for an inspirational drama about courage and true grit. Freddie was a young man who was habitually told he was too small for football. This movie recounts how he trained hard with his dad to overcome any perceived disadvantage. He wound up playing football for the university of Texas where he impressed the coach, and helped motivate the team to have an amazing season. This film also charts his courage when facing an injury which reveals a complex medical issue. Great stuff with an awesome performance by Wittrock(American Horror Story).
SPOTLIGHT – This true story studies the efforts of a team of reporters to investigate a cover up of sexual abuse cases in the Catholic Church. A stirring account of determined journalist struggling to get at the truth when a solid wall of denial is placed before them by a powerful group. An amazing cast includes Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, Michael Keaton, Liev Schreiber, and Stanley Tucci.
THE GOOD DINOSAUR – Pixar Studios delivers another thoughtful animated film with this study of a dinosaur. The story posits that the asteroid which wiped out the dinosaurs missed us completely allowing them to evolve and be around when man came on the scene. The story centers on a young creature that befriends a human child and their adventures.
MOONWALKERS – The truth is nowhere in sight in this fun conspiracy comedy . The story finds a strange C.I.A. agent tasked with finding a film crew to fake the Apollo 11 mission (just to be on the safe side). He sets about recruiting Stanley Kubrick, visionary filmmaker behind “2001:A Space Odyssey” to do the job. The mission takes him to swinging 60’s London where the ‘Austin powers” vibe is in full bloom. Funny stuff with a hilarious turn by Ron Perlman as the agent.
