PRESTONSBURG – Family is the most precious thing in a person’s life. The bond between a mother and daughter is one like no other. Big Sandy Community and Technical College Associate Professor Laura Ford Hall is presenting an art show at the art gallery located on the Big Sandy Community Technical College Magoffin Building. The show is a collection of paintings by Laura and her mother, Janice Ford.

“I lost my mother in 2007 when I was 27,” said Hall. “I had not painted since I lost her. When the college asked me to put together this art show it was a gift. It allowed me to pick up the paint brush and feel a connection to my mom again.”

Janice Ford was an Art Professor at University of Pikeville for 41 years. An art teacher at heart, she was always giving Laura art lessons. Going above and beyond for her students was the norm. She loved her job and the students that came along with it.

“I found four painting my mother started, but was unable to finish,” Hall said. “I finished two of the paintings. Picking up the paint brush reminds me of how much she loved me. She was always giving me painting lessons. The bright colors of many of the paintings remind me of her vibrant personality.”

The Art Gallery, located in the Magoffin Learning Resource Center on BSCTC’s Prestonsburg campus, is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon.
