One epic adventure and a trio of smaller scale flicks make for a perfect quartet of rentals during the upcoming week.

THE REVENANT – You can go wrong with this Oscar winning story form the maker of ‘Birdman.” Leonardo DiCaprio stars as 17th century woodsman who ,along with his half Native American son, leading a group to gather furs. In a blistering attack sequence the group is forced to flee from a an enemy group . Things just get worse as DiCaprio is soon mauled by a bear, in a horrendous sequence that will have you hitting the rewind button.

Suffice to say the group wants to get back to safety and panics without their woodsman. Soon they abandon him and head for home but not before slaughtering his son and making an enemy of their guide. The film charts DeCaprio’s struggle to survive and trail the group so he can get his revenge but nothing comes easy in this beautifully crafted masterpiece that was based on true events.

FIFTY SHADES OF BLACK – The Wayans brothers team up to deliver a vulgar and hilarious spoof of “50 Shades of Gray.” If ever a book/movie had a parody coming it is that tawdry tale of a sick playboy and his devoted secretary/love slave.

IP MAN 3 – The latest outing in this Hong Kong action series has Donnie Yen returning as the high kicking Ip Man. This time he is challenged with ridding his city of a crime clan. Lots of jaw dropping fights and an appearance by former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.

THE LADY IN THE VAN – Lastly we have this true account of an elderly woman who drops in on a fleeting acquaintance(a young man) and proceeds to live in his driveway out of her van. the pair eventually form a bond in this low key drama which is highlighted by the starring performance of Maggie Smith(Downington Abbey).
