A better than average week saw several entertaining efforts sharing shelf space.
JANE GOT A GUN – Most people missed this gritty western in theaters but it deserves a look. Natalie Portman stars as a farmer’s wife who must defend the homestead when her husband upsets a band of cut throats led by the nasty John Bishop(Ewan McGregor). Joel Edgerton is quite god as a man from Portman’s past that she turns to for help.
RIDE ALONG 2 – Ice Cube and Kevin James returns for this second round of buddy movie hijacks about a tough cop paired with a loud mouthed dunce. If you enjoyed the first effort then this should go down easy as they don’t tamper with the formula. Benjamin Bratt all but steals it as a charismatic bad guy.
KRAMPUS – When a family’s yuletide gathering proves icy a young boy turns his back on the holiday and unknowingly summons the anti Santa . It turns out to be the titular beast who is a huge, cloven footed, monster that intends to be very naughty this year. A few chills and lots of laughs follow.
THE MONKEES – The complete 60’s series about a rock band finally hits BluRay. This was a surprise hit with its day-glo , good casting, colors and far out plots. The band also sounded pretty good thanks to front man Mike Nesmith and vocals by Mickey Dolenz.
