Two big budgeted flicks led the pack this week and either one was a good bet for your rental dollar depending on your mood.
13 HOURS: THE SECRET SOLDIERS OF BENGHAZI – An attack on a U.S. installation in Libya causes chaos in this account of recent events in the Middle East. This true account depicts a six man security crew that must react when a U.S. Ambassador is killed by hostile forces. The men are left without a chain of command and must react when hostiles stream in towards their location while the bigwigs at home struggle to make sense of these events and are slow to give orders. You might want to turn the subtitles on as there is a lot of fast talking here and the chaos is contagious. Good and intense .
HAIL CAESRA – A Hollywood fixer must leap into action when a big star is kidnapped in this salute to madcap 1930’s comedies by the Cohen Brothers(Fargo). The crime occurs while the actor is on production on a big budget epic flick that is costing the studio millions. The period setting is perfectly rendered and it all gets sold properly by a huge cast that includes George Clooney, Josh Brolin, Channing Tatum, Scarlett Johannson and Tilda Swinton.
HUNTING SEASON – Eric Roberts and Tom Sizemore star in this low budget spin on ‘The Most Dangerous Game.” There have been countless films of this sort that focus on a para-military types hunting human prey. Unfortunately this isn’t one of the better ones.
Mill Creek Movie Collections. The good folks at Mill Creek are back with a slew of 50 movies packs his week. If you already own some of their collections you probably have most of these films already otherwise they are a great way to build up a movie collection quickly. The collections include salutes to Mad scientist flicks, comedies, monsters, suspense ,and adaptations of great literary works.
