By Tom Doty

New releases for the upcoming week are aimed at your funny bone but fans of ‘Film Noir” will get the best news with the BluRay release of an often imitated classic.

THE BROTHERS GRIMSBY – The latest comedy from Sacha Baron Cohen features a twist on ‘The Prince and the Pauper.” He plays a soccer hooligan who finally finds his long lost brother, Mark Strong(Low Winter Sun). Turns out the brother works for MI-6 and is in the midst of running down a sinister plot. Probably not the time to meet his dopey brother but this mismatched pair prove quite a team. Lots of raunchy laughs.

MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING 2 – Almost twenty years after the first film we find Toula(Nia Vardalos) still working in her dad’s restaurant and married to Ian(John Corbett). That is until the pair learn that their wedding minister was bogus rendering them unwed and having to remarry. This development sends the rationalist family into a tizzy . Funny stuff that brings back the comic cast that includes Michael Constantine , Andrea Martin, and Lanie Kazan.

MIDNIGHT SPECIAL – Michael Shannon stars in this Science Fiction thriller about a father who goes on the run to protect his gifted son from religious extremists. When word of the boy’s special powers gets out it becomes a nationwide manhunt. Good action ensues but even better drama thanks to a seasoned cat that includes Joel Edgerton, Kirsten Dunst, and Adam Driver.

SHIELD FOR MURDER – Classic film fans ill love this ,previously hard to find flick . Edmond O’Brien, who also directed, stars as a bad cop who kills a bookie’s runner and makes the shooting look justified. He also pockets the money that the hood was carrying but a mute witness could upset his plan. Then there’s his young partner ,John Agar, who starts to think his partner may be n the wrong . Great stuff that was totally reworked, with no credit given to this effort, as ‘Q and A.”
