PIKEVILLE – A group of 13 students from the University of Pikeville attended the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C. The first-year international students represented Japan, Belgium, England, Spain, China, Brazil, Germany and the Netherlands.

“I think Washington was a great opportunity to see a new city and its culture,” said Lara Velhurst of Meulebeke, Belgium. “I learned a lot about politics, the monuments looked awesome and the museums were interesting. The museum of art widened my view about art in general.”

The United States Capitol, Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, National Museum of American History, Library of Congress, Arlington National Cemetery and Embassy Row were among the many sights visited during the trip to the nation’s capitol.

“It was an amazing trip which changed my perspective about this country,” said Diego Blanco Robledo of A Rua, Spain.
