A good week for average releases will feature four movies hot off the shelves.
HARDCORE HENRY – First person shooter video game fans will enjoy this ,otherwise, average action flick with science fiction elements. The story finds Henry revived by his wife after he has died. She is promptly kidnapped by a telekinetic madman intent on creating a bio-engineered army. The hook is that the movie is all shot from the viewpoint of Henry. Actually this isn’t a new concept as to was first used by Robert Montgomery when he directed and starred in “Lady in the Lake.” The only time you saw him was in a scene where he was before a mirror.
BARBERSHOP: THE NEXT CUT – Belated sequel finds the crew at Calvin’s Barbershop teaming up with neighbors to fight rising crime in their neighborhood. A few laughs ensue, mostly thanks to Cedric the Entertainer. Fans of the series will enjoy.
THE BOSS – Melissa McCarthy stars in this comedy as a’ Martha Stewart” type business woman who goes down for insider training. Upon release she is forced to stay with family but bonds with her niece when she applies her skill set to the Girl Scouts. Some chuckles but not her best effort.
CRIMINAL – A CIA agent is killed on the job but his memories are implanted in a death row inmate who is then turned loose to finish the Agent’s assignment. An okay blend of fantasy and crime action that gets legs thanks to a game cast that includes Ryan Reynolds, Kevin Costner, Gary Oldman, and Gal Gadot.
