PRESTONSBURG – Big Sandy Community and Technical Collage’s McCall Art Gallery will showcase the art of Floyd County native Sue English through September 21. This show is an eclectic mix of nostalgia and also a modern approach.

“All my life, as long as I can remember, I have been interested in art of all kinds” and English proves her point with a wide variety of subject matter that range from African elephants to old log cabin scenes.

Several of her artworks are on mirrors, eggs and artificial nails. “I’ve painted with oils, acrylics, and China paint” in fact she has been certified as an instructor in China painting, as well as being a certified nail artist.

A reception for English will be held on from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, August 24 in the McCall Art Gallery on the Prestonsburg campus of BSCTC. Refreshments and snacks will be available and the public is cordially invited to attend the reception.

English is mostly a self-taught artist, but she has taken some drawing classes under BSCTC Associate Professor Tim Smith. “I believe Ms. English paints subjects she feels in her heart,” said Gallery Director Tim Sizemore.

The McCall Art Gallery hours are 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and Friday until noon. The Art Gallery is located in the Magoffin Learning Resource Center on the Prestonsburg campus. For more information, contact Sizemore at (606) 889-4746.
