It’ll be the week you’ve been waiting for if you enjoy action and thrills with two big box office hits and two less known but equally fun flicks.
CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR – The Russo Brothers are back with a bigger follow up to their Marvel debut on Captain America 2. This one ought to be called “Avengers 3” as it features a whole host of heroes and culminates in the best smack down yet for a hero flick. It all centers on Captain America’s efforts to help the fallen Bucky, now known as an international assassin called “The Winter Soldier.”Championing his old friend brings him into conflict with Iron Man who eventually assembles a team that includes fellow avengers as well as new recruits like Spiderman and the Black Panther. This doesn’t stop Cap who is able to get the aid of Falcon, Ant-Man , the Scarlet Witch , and Hawkeye. It all comes down to a beautifully staged super slugfest.
THE CONJURING 2 – This eerie sequel finds real life Ghostbusters ,the Warrens , going to England to help a family. Turns out the Hogdsons believe a ghost is in their house. The nasty spirit invades their daughter but soon turns its attention to the Warrens when they interfere. There is more humor but still plenty of chills this time out. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga returns as the ghost battling couple .
MARAUDERS – Blink and you missed this action packed heist flick about a bank that gets robbed. The F.B.I. investigates and suspects an inside job but something more audacious is going on. Great action sequences and a fine cast that includes Bruce Willis, Christopher Meloni(Law and Order SVU), and Dave Bautista.
THE MONSTER OF PIEDRAS BLANCAS – A sea monster lays siege to small coastal town in this excellent monster yarn from 1959. This classic finally hits DVD and BluRay and delivers the goods. The monster suit is excellent(think a fiercer version of the Creature from the Black lagoon). Famous for some good location work(a creepy lighthouse) and the brutal creature which decapitates one poor fellow.
