All sorts of goodies will hit the shelves with an emphasis on horror and suspense during the upcoming week.
X-MEN: APOCALYPSE – The mutant heroes from Marvel Comics return in this story that pits them against the titular fiend. Turns out Apocalypse was around since ancient history when he was sealed in a tomb . He finally breaks free and isn’t very happy with civilization and how it treated the first ever mutant. he recruits four others, including Magneto, and vows to destroy everything. The X-Men, led by Rogue, oppose his plan.
Okay sequel that has a great villain but no doesn’t do much to make the heroes likeable. That said the final fight is a doozy. Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, and James McAvoy star.
PURGE: ELECTION YEAR – The third installment in this franchise finds the country once again celebrating the one night when it is legal to break the law. The story centers on a senator who means to stop the practice after losing her whole family one purge night. She is betrayed and locked outdoors on the worst night of the year but her secret service man just happens to be the cop who survived the last film and learned mercy. Good stuff though not as brutal as this year’s election has gotten.
CHOSEN SURVIVORS – A blast from the part with this mid seventies yarn getting the BluRay treatment. Jackie Cooper, Bradford Dillman , Alex Cord, and Diana Muldaur star as citizens who are rushed into a protective bunker during a crisis. Unfortunately their safe place is several miles below ground and there is no one to call when a swarm of vampire bats break in.
AMERICAN HORROR STORY: HOTEL – The latest installment of this terror series focuses on the undead residents of a hotel in Los Angeles. The cats is rife with returning talent like Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, and Sarah Paulson. New faces include Lady Gaga but the vampire like villains and excessive gore often feel uninspired.
