PRESTONSBURG – October 10–11, 2014 marked the 4th Annual Prestonsburg High School Majorette Alumni Reunion, a celebration of 60 years of marching and baton-twirling at PHS. There were majorettes, drum majors, head majorettes, and field commanders from 1946-2006 in attendance. Those of us who attended the event feel that the reunions “just get better every year!”
Now, we’re about to celebrate our 5th reunion and we want to get the word out so everyone can attend! The reunion is October 9 – 10, 2015, during the Jenny Wiley Pioneer Festival, in Prestonsburg. Invitation letters are in the mail and we hope to have the largest group ever!
The majorette alumni was formed in 2011 when a hard-working planning committee took on the task of searching through yearbooks for the names and years of those who twirled or led PHS bands. An even harder task of finding the alumni was next. Thanks to the help of families and social media, nearly all the alumni have been found and are invited to the reunions annually.
That first reunion in October 2011 was a success with nearly 50 alumni participating! The group performed at the PHS Friday night football game and in the Jenny Wiley Festival Parade on Saturday. It was after that reunion that the decision was made by the alumni majority to continue the reunions annually. The group plans to do so as long as there is an interest. It is the hope and mission of the alumni to keep the memory of twirling and marching alive at PHS as well as to contribute to the Elizabeth Frazier Memorial Scholarship. For the past 4 years, the alumni has strived to do that.
Alumni attendees to the 2014 reunion were happy to see George Lockwood, Drum Major from 1950–1952, in attendance for the first time! George and his wife, Rita, now live in Williamstown and made the trip on Saturday in time for breakfast and float-decorating. George and Rita enjoyed a ride on the float through the parade and attended the banquet that evening.

Please help us locate these alumni so that we may invite them to the 2015 reunion! Of 177 living alumni, these are all who remain “unfound” and we need the help of the community to locate them. Please contact the alumni at 606-226-2565, email@example.com, or on our Facebook group page with any information.
In closing, the alumni would like to stress that the reunions are more fun every year, especially for those of us who perform, but, performance IS NOT a requirement for any alumni to attend our reunions! An itinerary listing all reunion activities accompanies our invitations. Alumni are encouraged to attend any and all events possible, especially those where group pictures are taken, such as the football games, parades, and banquets. Alumni are encouraged to bring memorabilia to the banquet to be displayed for all to see and enjoy.
We hope to see everyone there! March on, PHS!
