PRESTONSBURG – The Floyd County Homeless Shelter Committee held a meeting at the Floyd County Emergency and Rescue Squad building on Cliffside Road in Prestonsburg on March 6. A new board of directors is in place and hopes to create enthusiasm and community support for the important endeavor.
Committee members will begin fundraising activities in the next few months to generate funds to be used towards efforts to establish a Floyd County Homeless Shelter.
“Right now, we are currently looking for a location to locate the shelter,” said Joshua Kinzer, president of the committee. “We have a couple of locations in mind. However, nothing is concrete. We want to establish a homeless shelter that is basically a warming station. Individuals will be able to come to the center at night when temperatures drop to get in from the elements and stay warm. They will be required to leave each morning. Individuals will stay on a temporary nightly basis.”
Community involvement is crucial to establishing a Floyd County Homeless Shelter. Kinzer said it will take people getting involved and caring about others to be successful. The next meeting has not been scheduled at this time. Meetings are open to the public and everyone is invited and encouraged to attend.
