KHS LISTENING TOUR TO VISIT BSCTC: The Kentucky Historical Society and Big Sandy Community and Technical College will hold a special listening session to commemorate the 225th anniversary of Kentucky’s statehood at 2 p.m., Monday, April 17 in the Gearheart Auditorium on the Prestonsburg campus of BSCTC. Join Dr. Stephanie Lang, Associate Editor of the Register of the Kentucky Historical Society, for an engaging discussion about what makes the Bluegrass State, when viewed through the lens of history, unique. Dr. Lang will facilitate a conversation that celebrates the Commonwealth’s past while looking for ways to confront the challenges of the future. OUTSTANDING ALUMNI: Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) is accepting nominations for its 2017 Outstanding Alumni award. Criteria for the award is that the nominee must have completed at least 45 credit hours at BSCTC, Prestonsburg Community College or Mayo Technical School, and have demonstrated commitment to the community, their profession and/or the college. LEADING LADIES CONFERENCE: Big Sandy Community and Technical College will sponsor a Leading Ladies Regional Women’s Leadership Conference on Saturday, April 29 on the Prestonsburg campus of the college. The one-day event will feature speakers Dr. Rhonda Tracy, chancellor of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System; Allison Ball, Kentucky State Treasurer; Dr. Jamie Heath, dean of the University of Kentucky College of Nursing; Paula Schenk, executive director of the Kentucky Board of Nursing and Dr. Ayesha Sikder. HUBBLE EXHIBIT AT EKSC: Big Sandy Community and Technical College’s East Kentucky Science Center and Varia Planetarium (EKSC) will host the NASA Traveling Hubble Telescope exhibit through August. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students. The EKSC is open to the public from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from noon to 4 p.m. every Saturday. SMITHSONIAN HOMETOWN TEAMS EXHIBIT IN WAYLAND: Big Sandy Community and Technical College, the city of Wayland and the Mountain Sports Hall of Fame will host the Hometown Teams: How Sports Shape America Smithsonian exhibit from March 18 through April 22 at the Mountain Sports Hall of Fame (old Wayland High School gymnasium). THE GET TOGETHER: A MULTICULTURAL SYMPOSIUM: The Diversity Committee at Big Sandy Community and Technical College will host the Get Together: A Multicultural Symposium from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Thursday, March 30 on the Prestonsburg campus of Big Sandy Community and Technical College (Johnson Building, Room 102). Attendees will learn about the melting pot of diversity in Eastern Kentucky. From the history of Hungarian immigrant miners in Martin County, to Latina dancing, a personal tour of Italy and Japanese religions, this day promises to be enlightening and encouraging. LOW-COST DENTAL CLINIC: Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) offers a low-cost dental clinic on its Prestonsburg campus on every Wednesday and Friday. The clinic offers cleanings for adults and children, as well as other services, including sealants, bleaching and mouth protectors.
