Dr. Jackson, Saad named Great Teachers at Big Sandy

PRESTONSBURG – Dr. Patsy Jackson and Toufic Saad were the recipients of the Great Teacher award at Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) and honored at commencement ceremonies on May 5-6 at the Mountain Arts Center.

“We are very fortunate to have outstanding faculty, like Dr. Jackson and Mr. Saad, who care deeply about our students and place their success as a top priority,” said Dr. Alan Scheibmeir, interim president at BSCTC. “It is fitting that we recognize them in front of our students on their special day.”

Dr. Jackson is the director of the associate degree nursing program and has been employed at the college since 1993. A nurse practitioner, Dr. Jackson has taught adjunct for the University of Pikeville and Morehead State University. She earned her bachelor and master’s degrees in nursing and a doctorate in Nursing Practice from the University of Kentucky. She earned a Legal Nurse Consulting certificate from Kaplan College and a post-masters certificate as a Rural Health Nurse Practitioner from Eastern Kentucky University.

Saad, a professor of mathematics, grew up in the midst of civil war in his native Lebanon and came to the United States in 1981. He earned a bachelor of science degree in computer science with honors from Beirut University College in 1986 and completed his master of science in computer science degree from the University of Kentucky in 1989.

Saad is married to his wife, Sandra, a professor of communication, and they have one daughter, Madison, who graduated from Johnson Central High School and BSCTC simultaneously this month.
