HI HAT – Floyd County Sheriff Deputies wrapped up a three-month investigation into complaints of illegal drug trafficking in the Hi Hat community in southern Floyd County on Friday. Sheriff John Hunt said that during the investigation deputies were able to make purchases of illegal drugs from Tracy Newsome, a 45-year-old Hi Hat resident.

Floyd County Sheriff Deputies were issued an indictment warrant for Newsome’s arrest. The warrant charged the Hi Hat resident with trafficking a controlled substance first degree. Newsome was transported and lodged in the Floyd County Jail.

In addition to a new tip line, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department is using its social media presence as a tool for communication.

Since being elected sheriff, and taking office three months earlier than expected in Oct. 2014, Sheriff Hunt has launched the department’s Facebook page; garnered a faithful following on Twitter; implemented the new tip line, and soon plans, he said, to launch an Instagram account and a new website that will provide taxpayers the ability to pay property taxes online, as well as many other features.
