WHEELWRIGHT – Residents of Wheelwright will soon have a central park now that funding is mostly in place for construction costs, according to Mayor Don “Booty” Hall.
Hall said Wednesday that a local church group has donated funds to combine with the money already in place at the city level in order to see the park constructed near the area known traditionally as the old clubhouse.
“We’ve put a lot of parks in other areas of the city but they’ve not been used very much,” Hall said. “We figure this way we’ll have a central park right in the middle of the city so that people can get some use out of it.”
One of the last fund-raising efforts will take place this weekend with a wrestling event that will take place at the Wheelwright Gymnamsium. Ken Cantrell, with Bluegrass Championship Wrestling, said the outfit is working closely with city officials to raise money to go toward the central park project.
Though funding is nearly in place, Hall said the project will likely not get underway until September of this year.
