PRESTONSBURG – The Big Sandy Area Development District has received a grant from FEMA/KY Emergency Management (KYEM) to update the current Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan. Local governments/communities must participate in the process and adopt the plan in order to be eligible for disaster-related funds. FEMA and KYEM have asked Big Sandy ADD to coordinate the planning and update process.
The purpose of the plan is to better prepare the Big Sandy Region for any disaster/emergency that may occur. The following counties and cities are included: Floyd (Allen, Martin, Prestonsburg, Wayland, Wheelwright), Johnson (Paintsville), Magoffin (Salyersville), Martin (Inez, Warfield) and Pike (Elkhorn City, Coal Run, Pikeville).
There will be discussion at this meeting about updating the Floyd County section of the Big Sandy ADD Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan. The current plan was developed as a result of public meetings with the Hazard Mitigation Committee, local citizens and city/county officials. Public attendance is strongly encouraged and welcomed.
