Multi-employer job fair brings more than 500 jobseekers to Jenny Wiley State Park

PRESTONSBURG – More than 500 jobseekers attended a multi-employer job fair hosted by the Big Sandy Area Community Action Program, in conjunction with the Eastern Kentucky Concentrated Employment Program, Inc. (EKCEP), Kentucky Career Center JobSight, and corporate sponsor GMS Mine Repair & Maintenance.

The event was held at the Jenny Wiley State Park Convention Center in Prestonsburg on Thursday, Oct. 29. Organizers at the event were elated with the number of local jobseekers—532—the event garnered.

“We’ve had 240 register within the first half hour,” Erica Ash, with Big Sandy CAP, said Thursday morning. “Last year, we had around 250 for the whole event. That’s incredible.”

Thirty-three employers were able to attend the fair and meet with potential employees, with some companies conducting interviews and drug testing at the event to better facilitate a quick hiring process.
