Smith portrays Rupp at Floyd County Library

Dr. Ed Smith portrayed legendary University of Kentucky men’s basketball coach Adolph Rupp during a stop at the Floyd County Library in Prestonsburg on Monday night.


PRESTONSBURG – The Floyd County Library hosted Dr. Ed Smith as he portrayed Coach Adolf Rupp on Monday night. Smith is part of the Kentucky Humanities Council’s Kentucky Chautauqua Program.

Smith teaches theater and performance courses in the Communication Arts Department at Georgetown College. He developed and directs Kentucky On Stage: The Performing Kentucky Authors Project, an annual event that brings Kentucky literature to the stage.

Rupp was the University of Kentucky men’s basketball head coach for 42 years, winning 880 games and four national titles.

Kentucky Chautauqua is an exclusive presentation of the Kentucky Humanities Council, Inc. with statewide support from the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels and regional funding from Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America, Inc., People’s Bank and Trust Company of Hazard, National City banks in Lexington and London, and the Brown-Forman Corporation.
