Chamber discusses the New Economy for Millennials

Paul Green, Director of the Appalachian Technology Institute, served as a guest speaker at the Floyd County Chamber of Commerce’s networking luncheon meeting on Tuesday, November 10 at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park.


Several turned out for the Floyd County Chamber of Commerce’s latest luncheon.


PRESTONSBURG – The Floyd County Chamber of Commerce held a networking luncheon meeting on Tuesday, November 10 at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park. The topic for the luncheon was “Preparing your Community for the New Economy & Fiber: K-12 is Critical to your Success.” The guest speaker was Paul Green, Director of the Appalachian Technology Institute. Green described how new technology and the Millennial Generation (or Generation Y) can change our economy and the 21st century. He said that we have an opportunity to redefine our region.

Green described how the SOAR broadband initiative will provide the region with a window of opportunity to get ahead in the global economy; however, we must be prepared to take advantage of this opportunity. He also stated that our schools and communities must work together if we are going to be successful in recreating the economy in the region.

Following the presentation by Green, Chamber business representatives were given the opportunity to highlight activities and events in Floyd County and at their businesses.
