City hosts Christmas parade, decorating contests this week

PRESTONSBURG – The city of Prestonsburg launches into the season this week with its annual Christmas Parade.

The parade begins Friday December 4 at 7:00 p.m. and will travel through down town proper.

This years parade will feature contests for decorations including the “JACKED UP Ride” category that covers anything with four wheels. Decorated Car’s, Trucks, and ATV’s can enter this competition with a grand prize of $200.00 to the winner.

Additionally there will be a competition for best Christmas Float with $200.00 going to the winner.

For those interested in participating in the parade, line-up beings at 6:00 p.m. near Arnold and Patton Street. Prestonsburg officials will be there to number and register your float or vehicle for entry.

Instructions for the parade route will also be given during this time.

The City has also organized a home and business decorating contest. Two categories will be judged. Best “Business Window Decorations” and “Best Home Decorations.”

The winner of the business competition will receive a free newspaper ad and recognition, and lunch delivered to their business by Mayor Les Stapleton.

The winner of the home decoration contest will win a $50 Layne’s Ace Hardware gift card.

All entries must be ready to be judged by December 4, 2015. To be eligible to win, the home or business must be located within city limits.

The winners of all competitions will be announced following the parade at the Destination Community Church.
