Staff Report

BETSY LAYNE – The Floyd County Retired Teachers Association recently donated $192 dollars to Betsy Layne Elementary School Family Resource Youth Services Center. The money donated is to help with the Back Pack Program at the school. Brian H. Akers, Coordinator, accepted the check from Danny Branson who represented the retired teachers association.

Betsy Layne Elementary currently distributes 40 Back Packs with food every week. The FRYSC is able to do this program with the help of local churches that include: Betsy Layne Methodist, Betsy Layne Freewill Baptist, Boldman Freewill Baptist Church and the Prestonsburg Church of Christ.

“This money will help supplement the students back packs when we are out of school for a longer period of time due to inclement weather,” stated Akers. “The FRYSC is so thankful for the Floyd County Retired Teachers Association and the local churches that help make the Back Pack Program and important part of the student’s weekend. Our students are always excited to receive the Back Packs on Friday that include drinks, snacks and breakfast items.

Akers is the Coordinator and the current President for the Family Resource Youth Services Coalition of Kentucky.
