MARTIN – A Floyd County teenager was hit by a train on Friday afternoon and died from his injuries less than four hours after the tragic mishap. Floyd County Coroner Greg Nelson confirmed Willie Lee Salisbury, 14, was pronounced dead at 5:56 p.m. on Friday at St. Joseph Martin Hospital.
According to police, Salisbury was walking along train tracks near Hueysville around 2 p.m. when a CSX train hit him. Police also confirmed video from one of the cameras on the train shows Salisbury wearing what appeared to be headphones and looking down. Salisbury is believed to have been looking down at an electronic device when he was hit and might not have heard the train approaching. He was walking westbound and the train was headed east.
Visitation for Salisbury was being held throughout the day on Tuesday at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home in Martin.
The funeral will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
