HI HAT – Kentucky State Police were called in Tuesday after reports of a stabbing in the Left Beaver community.
According to KSP reports, during the afternoon hours on Tuesday, December 8, of this year, troopers with Kentucky State Police Post 09, in Pikeville, responded to the Hi Hat community of Floyd County in regards to a stabbing complaint.
Upon arriving at the scene Troopers located Tina Sturgill, 47, with multiple stab wounds outside of a residence. The victim’s husband, Thurston Sturgill, 51, of Hi Hat, was identified as a suspect.
In the report, officers noted that Sturgill, “caused serious physical harm,” to his wife.
Post 9 issued a notification to surrounding police agencies to be on the lookout for Sturgill. Chief Tyrone Fields with Whitesburg Police Department located Sturgill at a family member’s residence in the Whitesburg community of Letcher County. Chief Fields detained Sturgill until KSP Troopers arrived.
Sturgill was arrested last year on charges of fourth-degree assault (domestic violence) and three counts of terroristic threatening. He was found guilty of fourth-degree assault, while the charges of terroristic threatening were dismissed.
On Tuesday, Sturgill was charged with attempted murder. He was lodged in the Floyd County Detention Center.
The investigation is ongoing by Detective Tackett.
