PRESTONSBURG – The Prestonsburg Tourism board held a special called meeting on Monday, in order to review applications for the position of director vacated last month by Fred James.
During Tuesday’s meeting, board members met in executive session to parse down the number of applicants, and to appoint a subcommittee to review the remaining.
Board Chairman Jim Ousley says no date to hire a replacement has been set.
“We don’t have a date. We did not set a formal date,” said Ousley. “As soon as possible. As soon as we can get the interviews lined up, and make the process happen.”
Fred James retirement was official at the end of November, and now the office is strictly being manned by James’ long time assistant, Misha Curnutte.
According to Curnutte, right now is a slow period for tourism. “Kind of our down time. Setting itineraries for tour groups. A lot of thought processing for how to build the folk festival.”
At least twenty five persons applied for the position of Tourism Director; several of whom came from out of state.
Following the executive session, Ousley stated that the board had parsed down the number of applicants to six. Now, a subcommittee made up of Cliff Latta, Julian Slone, and Thomas Rainey will examine the remaining candidates, and set interviews.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Tourism Board is scheduled for January 12, 2016.
