PRESTONSBURG – Two people were arrested in the East Point community late Wednesday night after police discovered significant quantities of methamphetamine.
Lisa Burchett, 45, of East Point, and Chad Belcher, 35, of Johnson County were both arrested Wednesday night following a three-month investigation.
According to officials with the City of Prestonsburg, at 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, officers with Prestonsburg Police Department conducted a search warrant on Hager Branch in the East Point Community of Floyd County.
Officials say the search warrant was obtained following a three month investigation in which officers conducted controlled purchases of methamphetamine from Burchett inside her residence. During the execution of the search warrant a quantity of methamphetamine, firearms and cash as well as over ten cell phones, were discovered.
While officers were executing the warrant, they reportedly obtained more information about Blecher, and set up a transaction to intercept his vehicle which resulted in the confiscation of a large quantity of methamphetamine.
According to city officials, Belcher is beleived a significant player in the introduction of methamphetamine into Floyd County from the southern United States.
Belcher was arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance first-degree, greater than two grams of methamphetamine. Burchett was also arrested and charged with two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance, first-degree, greater than two grams of methamphetamine.
The investigation is ongoing.
