HI HAT – South Floyd held on to beat visiting Prestonsburg 79-72 in a 58th District boys’ basketball game at Raider Arena on Tuesday night.
With the win, South Floyd improved to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in the 58th District.
Prestonsburg dropped to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in the district with the loss.
South Floyd shot 38.5 percent (25-of-65) from the field. The Raiders were 0-for-10 from 3-point range but shot 75.6 percent (31-of-41) from the free throw line.
Andrew Tackett poured in a game-high 36 points to lead South Floyd to the win. Tackett ranks as one of the 15th Region’s top boys’ basketball players.
Following Tackett in double figures for the Raiders, Brady Conn scored 17 points. Conn posted a double-double, pulling down a game-high 18 points.
Poppa Trammell scored 15 points as three South Floyd players reached double figures in the scoring column.
Other scorers for the Raiders in the win included Jacob Collins (seven points), Blake Johnson (two points) and Hunter Johnson (two points).
Dalton Frasure paced Prestonsburg with 21 points. Directly behind Frasure in the Prestonsburg scoring column, Scott Stapleton added 20 points for the Blackcats.
Narrowly missing double figures, Wes Hager netted nine points for the Blackcats.
Jordan Ray and Bailey Slone scored seven points apiece, Drake Nunnery netted four points and Chandler Nelson chipped in two points for Prestonsburg in the district contest.
South Floyd is scheduled to visit Prestonsburg for a late-season game on Feb. 6.
