PRESTOSNBURG – Brent Graden hopes with the third annual Dewey Lake Triathlon that he and other race enthusiasts in Floyd and surrounding counties can continue to garner interest.
This next event, scheduled for Saturday, June 20, will be sponsored by the Eastern Kentucky Racers Association. The triathlon will include a half-mile swim, a 28 mile bike ride, and a 6.2 mile run. The race will start at 8 a.m. at the Terry Boat Dock at Jenny Wiley State Park.
“A few weeks ago, we sponsored a free sprint triathlon at the same location” said Graden, the race director. “It was a smaller race than the Dewey Lake Triathlon, but we wanted people to try a triathlon and see if they liked it.”
Graden said he’s interested in seeing people try something new and give the race a chance.
“We are looking forward to old friends as well as new faces at the event. The event itself will be professionally timed with full course support just like a big event like Ironman,” Graden added. “We want people to take that next step and try something different and step out of your comfort zone.”
All participants and spectators must actually be at the boat dock a little before 8 a.m. as the course will close to traffic from that time until noon. All fisherman wishing to launch a boat must do so before race time or proceed to the Jenny Wiley Theatre area boat launch.
Triathletes may sign up and find more information at either aptiming.com or find it on facebook.com/deweylaketriathlon. Graden can be contacted at 606-226-9353.
Proceeds from the race will be earmarked to benefit a new Floyd County Animal Shelter.
