PRESTONSBURG – The Prestonsburg Tourism board decided to go outside the mountains Tuesday with the selection of new director Mitchell Pearson.
Pearson will take over immediately as Director of the Prestonsburg Tourism board with a focus on motorcoachs and adventure tourism.
“I’m excited about the new job,” said Pearson. ” Prestonsburg holds a brand new world for me, a new opportunity. And this is what I’ve been working for the entire time, and for a tourism director position. So this is kind of my dream job.”
Pearson holds a bachelors degree from Eastern Kentucky University in parks and recreation administration, and has history working with Berea Tourism, Renfro Valley Entertainment Center, the Kentucky Horse Park, and with Shaker Village.
“Prestonsburg has an overload of opportunities that are available for it. It has such a rich history of the arts, the music, and then the trails that are going on,” said Pearson. “So with the outdoor adventure, I ‘m really excited to begin to encompass all those things to bring a new audience here for us.”
Pearson says his main goal is to build upon motor coach group tourism in Prestonsburg.
“I’ve worked with motor coaches for about nine years. So I’m really excited about them. I have a great history working with them. And they would be great for the area.”
Pearson says building upon the group tourism takes time because the groups typically book two years out.
Along with Pearson’s appointment to the position of director, long-time administrative assistant Misha Curnutte was also promoted within Tourism to the position of Assistant Director.
Curnutte said she was excited for the opportunity and looked forward to the future.
