MCDOWELL – A Floyd County man is behind bars after a Floyd County Sheriffs deputies investigation culminated in a weekend arrest.

According to officials within the sheriffs department, on Saturday evening, Floyd County Sheriff Deputies arrested Brian K. Prater, 46, of Frasures Creek, McDowell on charges of trafficking in a controlled substance in the first-degree.

Sheriff John Hunt said in a statement Monday that the investigation and subsequent arrest were the result of having received numerous tips on the sheriff’s anonymous tip line from people throughout the McDowell community.

Sheriff deputies located Prater Saturday evening driving a black Jeep Wrangler in the parking lot of the McDowell car wash. Deputies also discovered drug paraphernalia during a search of Prater following his arrest.

Prater was transported and lodged in the Floyd County Detention Center. Sheriffs officials say he and could face additional drug charges pending further investigation.
