IVEL – A Pike County man was arrested last weekend after sheriffs officials say the occupant was parked suspiciously near a store.
Sheriff’s deputies say that on Saturday, January 30, they observed a suspicious car parked to the side of a building at the Ivel BP gas station. Deputies reportedly questioned store workers and learned that the car and its occupant had been parked beside of the store for some time.
Upon approaching the car, deputies found the occupant, Jessie Ira Church, age 29 of Hatfield, to have slurred speech and glassy eyes. Deputies performed sobriety tests on Church and determined him to be impaired. A search of Church’s person rendered several different illegal drugs, a pair of steel knuckles and a ASP Baton.
Church was taken to the Floyd County Detention Center and charged with the following offenses:
- Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree
- Possession of controlled Substance 2nd Degree
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Illegal Possession of a Legend Drug
The incident is still under investigation by the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department and additional charges may be forthcoming.
