Fuel theft leads to two indictments

PRESTONSBURG – Two men accused of stealing fuel from a mining site in December were indicted last week by a Floyd County grand jury.

Shannon Hunter, 31, of Printer and Corey Kidd 29, both of Printer were apprehended on December 7, 2015 when Floyd County sheriff’s deputies caught the two in the act of stealing from a Black Hawk Mining company site in Honaker.

Hunter and Kidd were each indicted on one charge each of the following: theft by unlawful taking, second-degree criminal trespassing, and public intoxication.

According to arrest reports, deputies and mine security personnel reportedly caught the individuals in an elaborate attempt to steal hundreds of gallons of diesel fuel. The three men involved were using electric pumps and 100 foot sections of hose to pump the fuel from company storage tanks to portable tanks located in the bed of a pick-up truck.

Hunter was being held on a $1000 full cash bond, which was posted. Kidd is still being held on a $2000 full cash bond.

According to court records, Kidd will be arraigned in Floyd County Circuit court on March 21 at 9:00 a.m.
