Lewis, Greene, Thornsbury place in Governor’s Cup competition

PRESTONSBURG – Floyd County Superintendent Dr. Henry Webb has extended congratulations to Dawson Lewis from Betsy Layne High School and Tate Greene and Faith Thornsbury from Prestonsburg High School for placing in the regional Governor’s Cup competition and advancing to state level competition.

“The board team and I are extremely proud of Dawson, Tate and Faith for advancing to state level competition,” said Webb. “Tate placed third in Science, Dawson placed fifth in Science and Faith placed 5ifth in Composition. We also have Betsy Layne High School’s Quick Recall team placing third in the region and Prestonsburg High School tied for fifth place overall. Jordan Pack (ACHS), Sydney Hackworth (PHS), DeAnna Kidd (BLHS) and Dalton Price (SFHS) were selected for the All-Tournament Team.”

The regional Governor’s Cup competition consisted of students and teams from the following 14 schools: Allen Central High School, Belfry High School, Betsy Layne High School, East Ridge High School, Johnson Central High School, Paintsville High School, Phelps High School, the Piarist School, Pike County Central High School, Pikeville High School, Prestonsburg High School, Shelby Valley High School, Sheldon Clark High School and South Floyd High School.

“We ask that you join us in congratulating and celebrating our students who excelled,” Webb added. We wish them the best of luck at state!”

State Governor’s Cup Competitions for high school will be held at the Galt House in Louisville March 19-21.
