Big Sandy UK Alumni Club to host spring event on April 12

Staff Report

LEXINGTON — How do you gear up for the upcoming University of Kentucky football season? With fellow alumni and friends and the man behind the microphone, Carl Nathe, of course.

The Big Sandy UK Alumni Club will host its spring event on Tuesday, April 12 from 6-8 p.m. at the Johnson County Public Library, located at 44 Main Street in Paintsville.

Nathe is in his 27th year at UK as a member of the UK Public Relations and Marketing staff. He is involved with much of the office’s broadcast media output, including producing and hosting ‘UK at the Half,’ a two-and-a-half-minute radio feature about people and programs at the university which airs during every live statewide radio broadcast of UK Football and Basketball games on the UK Sports Network. In addition, he often serves as master of ceremonies at UK news conferences, announcements and special events.

At Commencement every May and December, Nathe reads the names of each of the graduating seniors just before they shake the hand of President Eli Capilouto as they walk across the stage.

The 2016 season of UK Football will be Nathe’s 20th year serving as the public address announcer at Commonwealth Stadium. He is known for his enthusiastic exclamations of ‘First Down Kentucky’ and ‘Touchdown Kentucky’ during home football Saturdays.

There is no cost to attend. Light refreshments will be provided by the club. If you plan to attend, RSVP at www.ukalumni.net/nathe.
