PRESTONSBURG – Floyd County Superintendent Dr. Henry Webb has extended his congratulations to Area Technology Center students who excelled at regional competition and are advancing to state competition.
SkillsUSA is a partnership organization serving teachers and students who are preparing for careers in technical skilled and service occupations. Competitions call for students to demonstrate occupational skills they have learned and students begin by competing at the school level to be eligible for regional competition.
“The board team and I are proud of these kids who are excelling in career based competitions,” Webb commented. “These young men recently competed with students from Pike, Johnson, Magoffin and Martin counties in this regional event at the Mayo campus of Big Sandy Community and Technical College and will now have the opportunity to
show what they can do at the state competition in April.”
Results from the regional competition were as follows:
Auto 1 – Aaron Morrison (PHS), third place. HVAC – Mason Swiger (BLHS), first place, Alex Allen (ACHS), second place. Web Design: Chandler Newsome and Tanner Gibson (PHS), third place. Welding 1: Aaron Hall (ACHS), first place; Chris Little (PHS), second place.
Students in HVAC, Web Design and Welding 1 will be competing at the state level
“We’d also like to thank Shawn Woods (Auto instructor), Justin Trout (HVAC), Jeff Shannon (Web Design) and Chad Kendrick (Welding), some of our Floyd County Area Technology Center instructors, for enabling KIDS to have opportunities in the career and technical fields,” Webb added. “Please join us in wishing these young men the best of luck at state competition.”
