DRIFT – Allen Central pulled away to defeat visiting Powell County 14-4 in six innings in a high school baseball game on Friday.
With the win, Allen Central improved to 10-1.
Powell County dropped to 5-5 with the loss.
Familiar high school baseball foes, Allen Central and Powell County are rivals from neighboring regions.
On the mound for Allen Central, pitcher Wyatt Crisp earned the win.
For Powell County, pitcher Lance Trent took the loss.
The Rebels shook off a slow start. Allen Central combined strong pitching with productive hitting to earn the non-district win.
Powell County enjoyed an early lead, plating two runs in the top half of the first inning. But the Pirates could only manage two runs over the next five innings.
Powell County plated its third run in the second inning. Allen Central, however, eventually got going at the plate.
The Rebels plated four runs in the third inning, cross home plate twice in the fourth frame and erupted for five runs in the fifth frame.
