PRESTONSBURG – Riverview Healthcare, a 121-bed skilled nursing home and rehabilitation facility located at 79 Sparrow Lane in Prestonsburg is part of Signature Healthcare. The company recently gathered its administrators and upper management team in Louisville where they presented the Siggy Awards to administrators in appreciation of their leadership and outstanding facilities and employees The Siggy Awards acknowledge the best of the best in each department of Signature Healthcare across the South East Region, which includes 144 different facilities.

Riverview was recognized for excellence in several categories: Best Chaplin Program, Best Digital Communication, Best Website, and Best Physical Therapy Department.

Chaplin Philip Ramey is doing some innovative things at Riverview to make the quality of life for residents full and enjoyable. He is responsible for the upkeep of the Riverview website, which received an honor for having the most hits of any website in the company.

“We have wonderful residents with interesting lives and personalities. I keep news and events updated online so families of residents can log on anytime and see what exciting things are going on at Riverview. Our Community tab is a link for families to stay updated with loved ones who are residents. We also highlight residents in our Hall of Fame Café,” said Chaplin Philip Ramey.

Riverview has not only residents whom need long term services, but their award winning physical therapy team make them the #1 choice for anyone seeking rehabilitation services.

“We do therapy seven days a week. We go at residents pace, if they feel like pushing themselves that day, then we push it. We want to get them back to living their best life as quickly as possible,” said Missy Allen, Facility Director.

Riverview is not your run of the mill long term care nursing facility. A movie theater, beauty/barber shop, library, multi-denominational weekly religious services, restaurant style dining, resident council program, family council program, volunteer program, and pet therapy include some of the things that make Riverview an award winning facility.

“There is a stigma with long-term care facilities in that residents come to skilled long term care facilities to die. That is just not true. Quality of Life means allowing residents to live life to the fullest extent possible, regardless of age or physical challenges,” said Allen. “We offer many programs, events, and event trips. Recently we took a group of residents to Lexington to watch the High School Boys Sweet 16 Tournament.”

The latest innovative project underway is the development of Riverview Healthcare’s newest and only news station “Your View: Your News – Your Voice – Your View Channel 51 News. The broadcast will be on Riverview roll-over channel and will feature all the latest events going on inside the facility.

“All elders will have the opportunity to hear reports on news, weather, sports, and all things concerning our Riverview community. We’ll even have commercials thanks to our Mugg-Z Café, Riverview Theatre, and more,” said Ramey.

In continuing with their initiative to provide residents with exceptional quality of life, Riverview Healthcare will present Bluegrass Championship Wrestling for residents and the Floyd County and Eastern Kentucky community Saturday, May 21 at 3 p.m. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. Admission is free and open to the public. Come out enjoy a free good time with the staff and residents of Riverview Healthcare Center.
