Floyd County man celebrates 106th birthday

Dick Mosley turns 106 years old on Friday, April 15. He is retired from the coalmines and the forestry department. He spends much of his time at home with his son.


DWALE – Floyd County citizen Dick Mosley will celebrate a special birthday on Friday, April 15. Mosley is turning 106 years old. He does not need assistance in doing everyday chores and activities, as he states he enjoys doing small chores around the house.

Mosley currently lives at Dwale with his son Burley. He enjoys many different activities in the area such as going to the flea market every Saturday and visiting different churches.

When asked how he stays so healthy and sharp, he said he enjoys eating wild game and ground hog is the best. Turkey, turtle or any wild game is on the table for Mosley.

Mosley married Bosy Hamilton Mosley in 1938. They had one daughter, Bonnie Mosley, who was killed in a car accident in 1962. Bosy died shortly afterwards in 1972. Dick Mosley never remarried. He became a coal miner and worked for 35 years in the coal mines of East Kentucky. In addition to working in the mines, he also worked at the forestry department for 10 years and night watched for several years.

Dick Mosley is one of nine children all are deceased. He also has 35 nieces and 20 nephews to call upon in a time of crisis.
