MAYTOWN – Kentucky State Police is investigating a fatal fire that occurred Saturday night at an apartment complex in Maytown.

Several crews from Garrett, Martin and Maytown fire departments responded just before 9 p.m. when Floyd County 911 received the emergency call stating a fire was located in Maytown. Crews battled the blaze in the multi-level apartment complex for several hours before the fire was brought under control and extinguished.

The body of Cathy Rena Marshall, age 50, was located inside the apartment complex shortly after emergency crews arrived.

A spokesman for Kentucky State Police say the body was sent to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy and official identification.

It has not known at this time if anyone else was injured in the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
