All-County Band and Art Festival held at MAC

PRESTONSBURG – Students from throughout Floyd County gathered at the Mountain Arts Center (MAC) to perform in the 2016 All-County Band and Art Show. Students practiced long hours to perfect the selections for the night’s performance for parents, school officials, friends, and community members.

Floyd County has hosted the All-County Band Competition for many years and students regard their invitation to participate an honor. The show featured performances from All County Middle School Band with guest conductor Constance Gay Barnette and performances from the All County High School Band led by guest conductor Debbie Shelton.

Approximately 140 students performed in the All County Band performance at the Mountain Arts Center.

Colby O’Brian an Allen Central High School Student earned the 2016 Billie Jean Osborne Floyd County School District Musician of the Year award. In addition to this award, he was also awarded a $500 college scholarship courtesy of Coalfields Telephone.

In addition to the musical talents on display at the MAC, students from throughout the county displayed artwork. The artwork will be on display through May and was judged by county teachers.

Middle school winners included: Haley Butcher, Paul Hall, Natalie Grace Compton and Jonah Bell from Allen; Sophia Ratliff from Betsy Layne; Kimberly Music from Allen Central Middle; and Jacklanne Barry, Lauren Kate Poe and Ava Grade Hyden from Adams Middle. Second Place awards were: Jonah Tackett, Clayton Smith, and Connor McClone from Allen; Lauren Gearheart and Dawson Owens from Allen Central Middle; Hannah Ratliff, Shelby Hatfield and Nadaleigh Lester from Adams Middle; Mayson Young from Betsy Layne and Chase Hamilton from Stumbo

High school winners included: Rachel Williams and Sarah Tackett from Betsy Layne; Zach Skaggs, Payton Martin and Jaden Clark from Prestonsburg; Audrey Caudill and Kara Anderson from South Floyd; Kess Wright, Cheyenne Smith and Jannah Halbert from Allen Central. Second Place awards were: Katy Newman and Faith Mitchell from Allen Central; Isaac Bell, Jamie Wolford and Lakesha Crum from Betsy Layne, Alex Scott and Savannah Frazier from Prestonsburg; Alexis Lawson, Brittany Newman and Kaylie Edwards from South Floyd.
