Championship series to kick off on Saturday

HAGER HILL – The East Kentucky Hillbilly Drag Race 2016 Championship Series will kick off on Saturday. Paintsville, Pikeville, Prestonsburg and Morehead tourism offices will come together to bring exciting racing to fans in Eastern Kentucky. The series will feature events at three tracks – I 64 Motorplex, Pikeville Riverfill and Combs Airport. The first event of the series will take place at Combs Airport with entertainment from announcer Rockin Rob Cherkas of the hit television show Pinks All Out, which broadcasts on the Outdoor Channel.

Prize payout structure and cost are as follows for the championship series only: Entry fee is $50 per race at all tracks. Each class will pay out $500 (guaranteed payout) with first place $400 plus trophy and second place $100 plus trophy. No buy-backs allowed for any Championship Series Race due to the point system. The $50 entry fee is for the car to enter the Championship Series Race. Other fees for driver and crew pit passes and spectators may vary from track to track. The East Kentucky Hillbilly Drag Racing Series will consist of seven races, the series champion will be the one with the most points at the end of seven races. The total prize payout for the championship series will be $25,000. The point system will be based on a one point per round with the winner receiving two points. Five bonus points will be given to each driver/car at the start of the first round.

Participants are divided into five different classes – SS100-Street Tire/Straight Motor, SP200- Street Tire/Power Adders, DS300- Drag Tire/Straight Motor, DP400- Drag Tire/Power Adders, and O500-/AWD-4WD. Each class has specific guidelines each driver/car must adhere to throughout an event.

Rules must be followed by everyone. Cars will be checked during tech and in staging lanes between every round. Any infractions will be grounds for immediate disqualification. All drivers and passengers must have and wear a DOT approved helmet. Pit passes and pit rules are at the sole discretion of each individual track. Being that each track is unique and set up different, everyone is asked to respect the rules and regulations at each track. All rules and interpretation of rules are at the sole discretion of the East Kentucky Hillbilly Drag Race Championship Series Tech Officials and Board Members. Their ruling are final.

The point series schedule is as follows: April 30 – Combs Airport; May 21 – Pikeville Riverfill; June 4 – I64, Morehead; July 2 – Combs Airport; Aug. 13 – Pikeville Riverfill; Sept. 17 – I64, Morehead; Oct. 15 – Combs Airport (Grand Championship).

Additional events are not listed but also scheduled.
