PRESTONSBURG – With most cities or areas around the county planning a host of events for Fourth of July celebrations including Martin, Wheelwright, Weeksbury, and Minnie, Prestonsburg will, as always, be adding their own taste of the Fourth for county residents to enjoy.
The long-held traditions of both fireworks and a carnival at Archer Park are on top, according to Ritchie Schoolcraft, with a few changes he thinks might please visitors.
This year, the carnival at Archer Park kicks off beginning Wednesday and running through until Friday. However, as visitors will pay the usual $15 for an arm band to enjoy each ride over on Wedneday and Saturday. On Saturday, anyone wishing to come to the carnival will have a full pass to the rides for only $10.
In addition to the carnival and mountaintop fireworks display, the city of Prestonsburg will also be offering live music at Archer Park as part of its celebration events.
From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday visitors can see the 50-member orchestra Winds of Appalachia perform and then, directly following that from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m., the group Wicked Peace will be offering a live show. To close the night of live music Bobby Lee Caudill & Company will perform from 8 p.m. until 11:30 p.m.
Those coming out to enjoy the festivities should save their tickets, Schoolcraft said. Drawings will be held beginning at 9 p.m. at the stage to give away four bicycles, two for girls and two for boys.
