Chamber holds 52nd Annual Awards Banquet

The 52nd Annual Floyd County Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet was held on Tuesday night.

PRESTONSBURG – The Floyd County Chamber of Commerce held its annual awards banquet Tuesday night at the Jenny Wiley State Resort Park’s Wilkinson- Stumbo Convention Center. The 52nd Annual Awards Banquet was a tribute to all Floyd County Chamber members who continue to shape Floyd County for the benefit of all businesses and residents.

Big Sandy Singers entertained guest as they dined on coconut breaded chicken, carved roast, garden corn and green beans, salad and dessert. Individuals from Big Sandy performing were Candace Kelly, Beth Runyon, Jerica Grim, Caleb Hall and Clayton Case. Guests enjoyed listening to songs such as Stand by Me, Natural Woman, Cowboy Take Me Away and Free Falling.

Belfry High School football head coach Philip Haywood was the night’s guest speaker. Kentucky’s winningest coach, Haywood spoke on his philosophies on winning, making leaders and what it takes to become a champion. Haywood is the author of Faith, Family and Football. He told guests leadership comes from within and every good leader must ask themselves, what they must do to help their community succeed?

“It’s not about me, it’s not about you, it’s about us,” said Haywood. “It takes four key elements to make great leaders: Be passionate about your career; Be passionate about your community; Be passionate about your family; Be passionate about your creator.”

Haywood was presented with a handcrafted wooden outline of Kentucky made by artist Ronnie Allen.

The Chamber presented several awards at the event. A breakdown of the awards follows.

Chamber Special Recognition: Floyd County Schools Youth Service Center’s Staff.

Chamber Partner in Education: East Kentucky Science Center.

Eco-friendly Recognition: City of Prestonsburg Public Works.

Community Service Award: Floyd County Cooperative Extension Office.

Special Tribute: Paul Gearheart and Dr. William Loftus.

Chamber of Excellence Award: Ellen Adams of Century 21 Realty.

Floyd Countian of the Year: Sheriff John Hunt.

Floyd County Hall of Fame: Dr. Nancy Johnson.

Horizon Award: Bright Beginnings Daycare.

Business Person of the Year: Dr. Henry Webb.
