GERMAN BRIDGE – The Big Sandy Trail Riders Club will offer over 40 miles of exciting trails for horse riding enthusiasts to take advantage of during a trail ride Friday-Sunday (June 3-5).
The Copperas Creek Trail, accessible from the campground, is 20 miles. It is a down and back trail along the lake shore. The Turnhole Trail is also accessible from the campground. The Turnhole parking area is 11 total miles through beautiful forested terrain. The Dewey Lake Trail, the only trail not accessible from the campground, is accessible from the Dewey Dam area only and includes 11 miles of scenic trail along the lake shore.
Experienced riders can take advantage of the amazing trails on their own or can take advantage of the organized trail rides on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. with trail bosses leading the way.
The BSTRC boasts partnerships with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Resources, Floyd County Fiscal Court, Booth Energy and Randy Bradley. To make reservations, contact campground manager Tommy Marcum or assistant manager Drema Deskins at 606-874-1150.
