FRANKFORT – The Kentucky Democratic Party announced Neville Blakemore as its vice chairperson on Friday. A small business owner in Louisville, Blakemore is chairman of Great Northern Building Products, which has been featured in Fortune Magazine as one of the fastest-growing inner city companies in the country, and on Business First’s Fast 50 list, which ranks companies by revenue growth.
“Neville has been extremely successful in the business world, and he will bring that same leadership approach to helping guide the party,” said Rep. Sannie Overly, chair of the Kentucky Democratic Party. “Neville will help us continue to grow and succeed.”
This is not the first time Blakemore has worked for the Kentucky Democratic Party. He started in politics in 1990 as a campaign staffer.
“I’m extremely excited to take this role with the Kentucky Democratic Party,” said Blakemore. “We have several crucial races in the fall, and it’s so important for the well-being of Kentucky that we hold a majority in the state House. We’re also thankful to have two extremely dynamic candidates in Jim Gray for U.S. Senate and Nancy Jo Kemper in the 6th Kentucky Congressional District. I’m ready to get started.”
As vice chair, party rules make Blakemore an unpledged delegate to the Democratic National Convention. He is uncommitted to either presidential candidate at this time.
Blakemore lives in Louisville with his wife, author Jessica Bird, and their daughter. He is a lifelong Kentuckian with family roots in the Commonwealth since the 1700s.
