PRESTONSBURG – Big Sandy Community and Technical College’s East Kentucky Science Center and Planetarium kicked off the first of seven summer camps on Thursday, June 2.

Good Vibrations: The Science of Sound was a camp designed to help 4- and 5-year olds discover the world of sound.

“The kids were super excited and engaged in all the activities as we experimented with the world of sound,” said Susan Scott, instructional specialist for the EKSC. “They even got to experience a laser show in the Planetarium and that was a wonderful treat.”

The campers got to experiment with tuning forks and water, guitars, tambourines and even got to make their own instruments.

Drako, the ever-popular bearded dragon at the EKSC, even made a special appearance. Campers got up close with Drako’s ears and learned how he hears.

The remaining camps at the EKSC include:

Children entering pre-school and kindergarten

Jr. Farmers: Growing in Math and Science – June 30. 9 a.m. to noon

Cost: Member $10/Non-Member $15
