PRESTONSBIRG – AppalReD staff, board members past and present, and other friends will come to Prestonsburg on Saturday, June 18 for a 45th anniversary celebration. AppalReD staff provides free legal services in civil cases to low income citizens in 37 eastern and south central Kentucky counties through a network of six offices. AppalReD offices are located in Barbourville, Hazard, Pikeville, Prestonsburg, Richmond and Somerset. AppalReD’s administrative office is in Prestonsburg.
AppalReD staff serves over 4,000 clients a year in traditional areas of poverty law, such as housing, consumer matters, claims for public benefits, domestic relations, and elder law. Over the years, AppalReD has been involved in significant representation of clients and client groups in various legal areas including coal-related matters, employment discrimination, utility terminations, special education, and economic development.
Social events will start off with an Open House at the Administrative Office in Prestonsburg from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. followed by a Laser Show at the East Kentucky Science Center located on the campus of the Big Sandy Community and Technical College at 4 p.m. There will be a dinner/dance at the Wilkinson-Stumbo Convention Center at Jenny Wiley State Park that evening.
