PRESTONSBURG – Amy Chapman is excited about dining.
And she’s not the only one. Residents at Prestonsburg HealthCare saw the addition of a new bar and buffet style dining service go in recently.
Chapman, the chaplain at the home, says the new experience for residents has been wonderful, while residents themselves are echoing those sentiments.
“The reception to this new addition to our home has been exceptional,” said Dewey Greer, resident council president. “I used to always eat meals in my room but since the buffet has been here I enjoy eating out here.”
Many of the elders at the home are also enjoying the freedom they have with new menu choices, said Chapman, adding that people from the community are always welcome to come see for themselves.
The new dining initiative is one part of a new philosophy directors are taking. The home has joined others in the Signature HealthCare family in taking part in what is known as The Eden Alternative. This is an international, non-profit organization dedicated to creating quality of life for Elders and their care partners, wherever they may live.
Through education, consultation, and outreach, this alternative offers person-directed principles and practices that support the unique needs of different living environments, ranging from the nursing home to the neighborhood street.
